Eloqi's coach picker: six coaches, each with their own voice

A talking chess coach: what it does

  • Talks out loud during your games, with a voice that runs on your iPhone. You choose how much it says.
  • Reviews every game. Each key move is explained: what you played, what was better, and why.
  • Lets you retry the better move yourself. The ones you miss come back as puzzles.
  • Explains live top events on Lichess at your level: Beginner, Club, Expert or My level.

Six coaches and 36 bots

Pick the coach you like. Each one talks you through your games in their own voice.

When you want a game, play one of 36 bots from 500 to 2600. 18 of them are free, and they talk as they play.

Grounded in a real engine

Game Review runs the Stockfish engine on your iPhone, not on a server. Every move gets a grade, with an accuracy score for both sides and a winning-chance graph. The coach explains those results in plain words.

Practice at your level

Your mistakes come back as puzzles. There are 4,400 rated puzzles and 28 lessons, from the rules up, plus a daily puzzle, Rush and Sprint.

Play on your own board (beta)

Prop your iPhone beside a regular chess board with real pieces. The camera follows the game, and the bot says its reply out loud while you move its piece. Real-board play is in beta. It works best with a standard Staunton set, a steady phone and even light.

What is free

Free every day: the daily puzzle, 5 practice puzzles, 2 Game Reviews, the First Steps lessons, 18 bots, real-board play and the spoken coach. Premium unlocks the rest. No ads either way.

Questions and answers

Does the coach really talk?

Yes. Your coach talks out loud with a voice that runs on your iPhone, and you choose how much. The 36 bots talk too, each in its own voice.

Is Eloqi free?

Yes. Free every day: the daily puzzle, 5 practice puzzles, 2 Game Reviews, the First Steps lessons, 18 bots, real-board play and the spoken coach. Premium unlocks the rest. No ads either way.

Which languages does Eloqi support?

Menus and screens come in English, German, Spanish, French, Italian and Japanese. The coach speaks and writes its commentary in English for now. Lesson notes are in English too.

Does it need internet?

After the models download, bot games, puzzles, Game Review and coaching work offline. Online play, importing games and live broadcasts need a connection.

Which phones work?

Eloqi is on iPhone today. It needs iOS 17 or later and is built for iPhone 13 and newer. iPhone 12 works on a best-effort basis. An Android app is coming soon, and you can join its waitlist on this page. There is no iPad app today.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no Eloqi account and no ads. Online play uses your own Lichess account, only if you play online. Board reading runs on your iPhone, and the full camera view stays there. A few board-only photos are shared by default to improve recognition, and you can turn that off.
